Exploring the Woven Form
June 15-21
Course
Description:
Exploring the Woven Form is for basketmakers who want to expand their knowledge
of wicker basketry techniques, develop their ability in shaping the three-dimensional
form, and experiment with patterning and color. Participants will begin
by exploring various weaves and basic techniques for weaving bases, as
well as various types of borders, handles, and lids. As participants sample
various techniques, instructor Flo Hoppe will offer one-on-one guidance
to help participants discover new ways to express their ideas.

Artist's
Statement:
My work is a visual diary of my thoughts and feelings regarding my journey
through life. I've tried keeping a journal but find that my thoughts are
more adequately expressed in a visual and tactile way rather than in words.
My inspiration comes from intertwining melodies in music, the three-dimensional
forms in space created in dance, and visual images in my mind - things
that for me can't be expressed in words. Patterning with multiple layers
of surface decoration is the present focus of my work.
