A Note from the Director
Welcome
to the Shakerag website. We who organize Shakerag Workshops are excited
about the program that we have - and about our website
for 2007.
We enjoy planning for Shakerag - discussing workshop possibilities, thinking
about food, deciding how to publicize our program, solving the problems
that arise. We particularly enjoy the relationships we develop with our
faculty
and prospective participants as we plan for the upcoming year – for
us, the community which emerges each week is what makes our program special.
Shakerag Workshops is a young program, as you know – we have only been in operation for three years. You may well ask, as a prospective participant, why you should come to such a new program, or what might make our program special for you.
Here are some answers that we would propose:
- we have the best faculty that you could find anywhere! We pride ourselves on asking the top people in each field because we believe that working with superb faculty members stretches us as artists and allows us to develop our ideas and techniques once we return to our own studios.
- we have delicious food! We love to eat; we think about food throughout the year, and we have great friends who love to cook and are excited about what they might prepare for our group
- we have one of the most beautiful swimming lakes you've ever seen! On our campus is a large stream-fed lake bordered by rocks and trees, and swimming in it each day, after working hard in the studio, renews the soul.
- we have fun together! We love the spirit of camaraderie that has emerged each session during past Shakerag Workshops. We have had many late night conversations among individuals in the studios, moonlight swims, and even a mojita party (complete with dancing) celebrating the summer solstice.
We hope that you will come join us. Look through the website and find a class that is intriguing to you – then treat yourself to a wonderful experience in June, on a mountaintop in Tennessee.
