Accommodations
Shakerag participants will be residing in rooms in Woods, Watts, Colmore, Card, and Warner Houses on the St. Andrew's-Sewanee campus. Woods, Watts, and Colmore, all of which are air-conditioned, have six bedrooms in each House, with twin beds, dressers, and closets in each room. Warner House, which is not air-conditioned, has ten bedrooms which are similar to those in the other Houses. In each residence there is a shared bathroom with three private showers, three private toilets, and a shared sink area. In each house there is a common area with a microwave and a television. All of our Houses and studios are smoke-free, and most residences are wheel-chair accessible. Bedding (sheets, pillows, and blankets) and fans are available to rent each week.
Our
accommodations at Shakerag Workshops are simple and modest. Although participants
spend the great majority of their
time in the studios, there are many lovely
areas on campus for sitting, talking, and relaxing with new-found friends.
The library, the porches where we eat our meals, the lounge in the studio
area,
and the raft at the lake are all comfortable places to gather.
We encourage you to try something different in choosing your housing for
Shakerag Workshops: returning to communal living for a week has proved to
be a positive
experience for our participants in the past. Our residences, studios, and
dining facility are all within easy walking distance of one another. Imagine
parking
your car upon your arrival, and not having to drive for the entire week!
Though you are welcome to commute to our studios from the motels located
5 miles down
the road, you might enjoy the freedom and ease that living on our campus
allows.
Meals
Meals at Shakerag are an important part of each day. We pride ourselves on serving a wide variety of foods at each meal, and we emphasize fresh vegetables and locally grown produce and fruit. See the Kitchen page for some recipes!
