Shakerag Workshops offers a series of arts classes for adults in June each year atop the Cumberland Plateau in Sewanee, Tennessee.
Instructors from around the world offer classes in a variety of media - knitting, basketry, book arts, clay, digital arts, felting, fiber, mixed media, jewelry, wood carving, and painting. Most participants, faculty, and staff stay on the campus, eating and working together for the week. After classes, participants enjoy hiking on the campus trails, swimming in the stream-fed mountain lake, and relaxing in yoga classes.

"From a beautiful Tennessee mountain campus, Shakerag provides in-depth artist's workshops for the novice and expert alike. The classes are taught by exceptional faculty, many known worldwide, who dive right in, creating a nurturing and fun environment of mutual respect with an emphasis on the creative process. You'll enjoy making new friends, learning new skills, sit-down to delicious and healthy meals prepared on site, attend the faculty talks in the evening, swim in a spring-fed lake on campus and hike the near-by trails."
"The Shakerag experience is something magical. The teachers are world class, the campus and facilities are beautiful, the food top notch, and the camaraderie and creativity shared between participants is extremely energizing. This was my first year, but I will definitely be back again!"
Jane Rucker, Houston, Texas
"Shakerag offers each participant a place to grow creatively. The atmosphere is friendly and non-judgmental, making it an easy place to do artistic things in your wheelhouse you may never have thought of before."
JoAnn, Cincinnati, OH
"It is a magical place where art is important, artists are valued and creativity is abundant. It is an adult summer art camp where everyone is included and valued. It is warm, friendly and inviting. I will be going every year until the day I die!"
Abbey Moore, Grand Rapids, MI
"I really appreciated the whole atmosphere at Shakerag. It was inspiring to spend time with people who value art-making and craft in many forms, and who also value community and well-being. I felt very comfortable and welcome here as a first-time attendee. I already look forward to coming back next year! An amazing value. I loved the diversity of the classes and hearing the evening lecture presentations. I learned a lot both in my class and with interactions with others in other classes."
