VIEW SUPPLY LIST
Join MaPó Kinnord in using a variety of hand building techniques to create ceramic sculptures that consider both exterior and interior space.
Course Description
The value of functional ceramics and architecture is in the space the work creates. Participants will be encouraged to have a conceptual purpose for their project. The concept design for a commemorative shrine or fanciful installation container will dictate the possibilities for form and surfaces. The workshop will include lighting design as well as non-clay elements to be added after firing. Feel free to bring objects to include as a featured element of the design.
Materials: Paper clay, low fire commercial glazes, acrylic paints, and mixed media.
Some experience with basic hand building techniques is needed.
Artist Biography
MaPo Kinnord began her clay work in a Quaker high school arts program in Cleveland, Ohio. She apprenticed with several production potters before receiving a BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art in 1984 and MFA from Ohio State University in 1994. Moving to New Orleans in 1995, she is now an associate professor of art and department coordinator at Xavier University of Louisiana. She has taught workshops at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, Penland School of Crafts, and Izumi Kanbe no Sato Crafts center in Matsue, Japan. She has been a ceramics educator, production potter, and exhibiting ceramic artist for over 40 years.
