Sherri Bergman
SAS Board President Rich Westling annouces that Carney, Sandoe & Associates has been engaged for the Head of School Search.
Richard WestlingDear SAS Parents,
I am writing to inform you that Father John Thomas has accepted a call to be the new Head of School of Frederica Academy on St. Simon's Island, Georgia. He is resigning his position at SAS effective at the end of the current academic year and I have accepted his resignation. Please join me in congratulating Father Thomas on his new position.
The Board of Trustees joins me in thanking Father Thomas and the Thomas Family for their seven years of service to SAS. Under Father Thomas's guidance, the school completed construction of McCrory Hall for the Performing Arts, Wade Hall for the Sciences, and the Chamberlain-Reishman Wing of Simmonds Hall. Father Thomas oversaw curricular changes, schedule changes, and many administrative and staff transitions. During his tenure the school conducted an important visioning process, developed a strategic plan, successfully achieved reaccreditation, and celebrated the centennial of St. Andrew's Chapel. It is fitting that Father Thomas will "graduate" from SAS with the Class of 2015, the same class with which he entered. His final day with us will be June 30, 2015.
In the coming months, we will begin a search for a new head of school. The Board of Trustees has engaged Carney, Sandoe & Associates and CS&A search consultant Marguerite Lloyd to guide us through this process. Mrs. Lloyd is a former resident of Sewanee and is very familiar with St. Andrew's-Sewanee, our unique mission, and the nearly 150-year commitment to Episcopal education embodied by our school. In order to allow for a thoughtful and thorough search process, CS&A will also help us to identify an interim head to guide the school during the 2015-16 academic year.
As the search process becomes more defined, we will keep you informed of timelines and opportunities to participate in the process. In the coming months, we will also ask you to join us in celebrating both John and Janice Thomas's many contributions to St. Andrew's-Sewanee School and the Sewanee community.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I look forward to working with you to identify the right leadership to lead SAS into its second 150 years.
