Residential Life

I love that we hung out with our teachers outside of class just for fun and not because we had to. I loved being in the dorm, because it' was like a 24/7 sleepover with all of my friends, and I loved playing sports here because the coaches were also our teachers and friends. There is honestly no way a person could list all the amazing qualities this community has." ~ Greer Sims '10, Georgia College Univ. '14

At SAS, we believe in family, whether it was the family you were born into or the family you choose to join. All boarders live in a house in which faculty houseparents and a “family" of 12-15 students create a second home. The houses include homey touches like porches, fireplaces, dogs, and faculty children longing to adopt big brothers and sisters.

Each house also includes amenities for comfortable living. Students usually live in doubles. In addition to beds, desks, dressers, and closets (plenty of space for clothes and personal items), all houses (all of campus) is Wifi accessible. The houses also have laundry facilities and a commons room with a television and microwave. All houses and rooms are air conditioned.

At some day/boarding schools the boarders feel left behind at the end of the day. Not at SAS. Day students seem to be on campus almost as much as the boarding students and frequently participate in weekend activities or school-sponsored trips. Boarding students are regularly invited to spend an evening or weekend off-campus with day friends and their families, and the invitation is often reversed for long weekends or breaks.

Monthly family-style dinners give boarding students an opportunity to practice their table manners and the fine art of conversation. The dinners are followed by community meetings that provide an opportunity to discuss issues of particular importance to the boarding population.
