Posted 10/26/2015 09:07AM

The Rev. William S. Wade, former head of school for St. Andrew's-Sewanee, will present the program "St. Andrew's: Not Just Another School" as part of the Academy of Lifelong Learning at St. Mary's Sewanee at noon, on Thursday, November 12.

Bill served as Head of School at St. Andrew's-Sewanee for 27 years. He will share the long and fascinating history of St. Andrew's, one of the St. Andrew's-Sewanee parent schools. As SAS looks ahead to July 1, 2016 when they will welcome their new Head of School, Bill's talk will be especially timely and enlightening.

The Academy for Lifelong Learning meets monthly at St. Mary's Sewanee. Membership dues are $12 per year or $2 for a single lecture. New members are always welcome.

A box lunch ($12) can be reserved by calling St. Mary's Sewanee at 598-5342. For more information contact Anne Davis at (931) 924-4465.

Fr. Wade retired in June 2008 after 27 years of service to St. Andrew's-Sewanee School. He was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of the South and received his Master of Divinity, cum laude, from Virginia Theological Seminary. In 1989 he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from the University of the South. In 1996 he received national recognition when he was selected as one of 10 Reader's Digest Heroes in American Education for his creation of a unique and highly successful summer program whose diverse makeup included Native Americans and inner city Bronx teenagers. In 2000 Fr. Wade was the recipient of the Ruth Jenkins Award for outstanding service to the National Association of Episcopal Schools, an award that had only been given three times previously. He is a past president of NAES and has served on various boards and committees for other independent school organizations.
