Looking for a college with both rich academics and a social conscience? Try Earlham, a small liberal arts college in the Midwest that is solidly true to its Quaker heritage and its traditions of community, peace, and justice. Consistent with its longstanding commitment to the valuable presence of international students, Earlham has a diverse population of students from 70 or more countries outside the U.S. and offers over 200 courses with some international emphasis. This is a good place to go to study languages, biology, neuroscience, creative writing, business and nonprofit management, social sciences, and peace & justice studies. Their Japanese studies program is one of the best around with a full year exchange study option at Waseda University in Japan. About 2/3 of Earlham graduates will pursue graduate studies and about 60% will have studied abroad at least once during their time at Earlham. The new fine arts building has given the visual and performing arts program a real boost. The 800-acre campus is located on the edge of town which is within a short drive to both Cincinnati and Indianapolis. Students are laid back and smart and the community is very open. Athletics are D-III, and the equestrian center is impressive. Admission is selective but with some flexibility, a factor usually true for the Colleges That Change Lives Groups. Successful applicants tend to have a strong B (mid/high 80's) or better average. Read more at
