Oglethorpe University

Named for the founder of the state of Georgia, Oglethorpe is one of the few smaller liberal arts colleges located in a major city. If you have never been to Oglethorpe, you will have a nice surprise when you see the pleasant residential and commercial areas nearby. There is a MARTA station across the road, so access to other parts of Atlanta and the airport is easy. The campus is in the Brookhaven section of town, a bit north and east of midtown, about 10 minutes from Buckhead and from Lenox Mall, Phipps Plaza, and itself an rapidly developing area with nearby shops and restaurants. The campus is Gothic in style and has lots of green spaces. Students often seek out Oglethorpe for its strong programs in business, communications and public relations, English, biology, accounting and psychology. The school just received a significant donation to begin a new business school and that is going to be very significant. Oglethorpe students can also take part in the Atlanta College Consortium cross-registration, taking classes at Emory, Georgia Tech, SCAD and one of the many other Atlanta area colleges and universities. There are some interesting study abroad programs, including sister school exchanges in Argentina, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Russia, and Monaco. Admission is selective, but some flexibility exists. Greek life is popular, but if that is not your scene, Atlanta is just down the street. Athletics are D-III.
