Winter Varsity Athletes Recognized

Winter varsity athletes at St. Andrew's-Sewanee School were recently honored at a morning all-school assembly. In front of the entire student body, athletes were presented with the Most Improved Player (MIP), the Most Valuable Player (MVP), and the Coaches' Awards. The players on the teams vote for the MIP and MVP awards.

SAS celebrated the achievements of the varsity winter teams, including basketball, swimming, and wrestling.

The swim team broke two school records at the State swim meet. Catherine Gray '18 set a new record in the 100 Back (1:06.09) and Aidan Smith '20, Porter Neubauer '21, Zolon Knoll '20, and Randy Paul '19 crushed the school record in the 200 Free Relay (1:34.88). At the regional swim meet, the relay team placed 9th in the 200-meter medley relay and the 200 Free. Zolon placed 10th in the 500 Free (5:19.30). During the season, Catherine also set a new school record in 50 Back (31.40) and Aidan set a new school record in the 50 Fly (25.72). The girls' swim team finished second in their division and the boys' finished first. Middle School swimmer Libby Neubauer set a new school record for the 500 Free (6:49.66).

The wrestling team had several excellent finishes at the annual Mountain Top Invitational by Eli Andrews '20 who placed 1st at 113, Michael Vaughan '21 who placed 4th at 120, and Bailey McLean '18 who placed 3rd at 138

Basketball season highlights included Blaise Zeitler '18 scoring his 1000th career point. He and Nneka Okolo '20 received All-District honorees.

The SAS Middle School Girls' Basketball Team finished their season 13-4 and earned the following Big 8 Conference honors. Defensive Player of the Year: Lakin Laurendine; All Conference & All Tournament selections: Madison King and Lakin Laurendine, All Star Game selections: Lucy Cassell, Madison King and Nailah Hamilton; and 3-Point Shooting Competition: Madison King.

Mac Croom and Ethan Hargis of the Middle School Boys' Basketball Team were named All-Conference. Elijah Seavey and Gus Croom will participate in the All-Star Game and Ethan Hargis will participate in the 3-Point Shooting Competition.
