“Rock Bottom” - Text(ure): Supply List

  • Students should bring lined or unlined notebook for writing, favorite writing instruments, pencils, eraser, quilt ruler, xacto blade, (2) 22x30 or larger pieces of natural/white med weight lotka or mulberry paper, 6 to 20 pieces 8x10” or larger  text weight collage papers of your choice, self-healing cutting mat, 2 inch brush, metal cookie sheet, scissors/rotary cutter, 8 oz PVA adhesive, 2 ply linen book art thread 12-20 yards, curved needle, sewing needles with large eyes, assorted brushes, Bone folder, roll of wax paper, 6 or more Black and White copies of nature inspired imagery or other images you are visually interested in. Copies (not ink jet!)(please use your own images or copyright free images) apron, small sponge or soft rags, two lidded 6-12 oz containers, wider masking tape, 3 tubes of favorite acrylic paint colors. (please think about the color taxonomy of your material choices as they reflect your authenticity) tools to stencil, resist, draw into paint (Doug uses an old knitting needle or glass stylus) please bring 8 to 12 clothespins/clips, 8x10" piece of transparent plexiglass or glass.
     
  • Optional materials – Throughout the workshop you will be given a series of exercises to be carried out on pages that will become part of your projects, books and “manuscripts”. Consider bringing materials that you already have for possible use in the making of your projects. Possible items - (but are not necessarily limited to): transparent fabrics and papers, thread, gesso, fluid acrylics or inks, tar gel, handmade papers, book board, maps, buttons, charms, bone clasps, watercolors.....bring anything that is part of your current studio practice and authenticity.
