Stacked Stories: Vertical Concepts Working with Concrete

Make your dreams concrete! Learn to create stackable, sculpture elements using carved foam forms that you will cover in a concrete system, and cast, wet carved concrete to create a sturdy base. You are invited to create sculptural pieces that relate to one another, focusing on a theme that resonates with you, creating a vertical sculpture…your stacked story. Your concrete elements can also exist as independent sculptures. You’ll receive specific information on a variety of concrete forming techniques through a combination of presentations, handouts, and demonstrations, and, most importantly, by working with the materials. We’ll expand the possibilities of form development by adding metal mesh and wire to carved foam and experiment with concrete colorants. Ultimately, your sculptural pieces could be complete in the concrete state or serve as substrates for further embellishment with mosaic, encaustic, or paint (although those will not be accomplished during the workshop). Whether you are a concrete fanatic or have never touched it before, Sherri will meet you at your skill level and help you grow from there!
