SHAKERAG SUMMER WORKSHOPS
St. Andrew’s-Sewanee Campus
Named one of the most beautiful high school campuses in the South by Southern Living magazine, St. Andrew’s-Sewanee is set on the Cumberland Plateau between Nashville and Chattanooga and is the location of all our Summer Workshops. The school's 550-acre campus includes fields, forests, bluffs, caves, and waterfalls. The Spanish colonial architecture gives visitors the feeling that they’ve slipped away to another world.
Work: Studios
Natural light fills the Shakerag studios and art spills out across campus with numerous sculptures executed as joint projects with visiting artists. The clay facility includes 18 wheels, hand-building facilities, and the firing capabilities of a large gas-fired kiln and a soda/salt kiln. Participants assigned to studios in Wade Hall for the Sciences enjoy a LEED Gold Certified facility that is bright, fun, and engaging. Thanks to the building's green design you will stay cool in the summer and enjoy excellent indoor air quality. Visual and physical access to the outdoors is available throughout the building.
Refuel: Robinson Dining Hall
You deserve a cookie! At Shakerag Workshops we consider food to be an art in itself. Our dining staff will provide you with three meals a day in beautiful and historic Robinson Dining Hall. Our meals are fresh and nutritious and supplemented with locally baked breads, locally sourced produce, and our famous cookies. Our staff is happy to accomodate food allergies and special dietary needs. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are prepared on campus and served at historic Robinson Dining Hall.
Play: Outdoors
Enjoy miles of trails for hiking, running, and mountain biking. Shakerag regulars love swimming in our campus lake. Stroll out to Piney Point and enjoy a stunning view from 2,100 feet above the valley.
Rest: Dorms
Our participants maximize their time in the studios and outdoors. When you’re ready to rest, your dorm room will be a clean and comfortable space to recharge. Communal bathrooms are just steps from your room.
