About The Artist
Sisavanh Phouthavong Houghton is a Lao American artist and Art Professor who creates paintings and installations in various mixed media. She merges archival and contemporary imagery to examine the enduring and complex legacy of war, drawing on her experience as a Lao American refugee immigrant. Her artwork explores the collective trauma of past historical wars and holds deeply human stories of memory, resilience, and the passage of time. She received her BFA from the University of Kansas, followed by an MFA from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and has maintained an ongoing studio practice and extensive exhibition record for the past twenty years.
